Core Production Capability Project

Context

The Core Production Capability (CPC) Project is designed to maintain the UK’s Nuclear Submarine Reactor Core Production Capability to be able to manufacture, store and prepare reactor cores ready for dispatch in submarine build programmes.

CPC project’s aim is to sustain the manufacturing capability offered by Rolls Royce Raynesway and satisfy the nuclear propulsion needs of the Successor SSBN and follow-on SSN class.

Concerto were asked to carry out a Gateway 0 review “Strategic Assessment” on this mission critical project.

Our approach

Concerto carried out the review over a five day period at Abbey Wood, and Rolls Royce’s site at Raynesway, Derby. We started with a briefing day and then conducted interviews and workshops with all key stakeholders, including the Director of Submarines at DE&S.

Recommendations

Our recommendations focused on several aspects of programme management including Schedules & Critical Path, Risks & Mitigation, Resources, Governance, and the challenges of construction on a live nuclear site.

“Concerto brought their wealth of experience to bear most helpfully throughout the review.”
Barry Brooks, Review Team Leader.
