Our scrutiny of DFID's use of contractors is welcomed by both DFID and its contractor community as providing a major opportunity for change. Paul Winter is quoted in the FT talking about the art of getting the best out of a strategy consultant. June 2012.
The teaching and professionalisation of strategic thinking and planning is greatly valued by consultancy firms. It is fundamental to my work at Concerto and to other members of the Management Consultancies Association (MCA).
There is no lack of interest on our part, nor a hidden secret code or mystique that holds us back. The key to successful strategy lies in the skill with which strategic thinking is led, adopted and executed, and the speed with which is it adapted in response to market challenge.
The MCA is now actively involved in a group pursuing a proposal for a research chair with a major London business school to encourage more specific research in this area. So we are aware that further and complicated work needs to be done. We are also getting on with it.
