The Senior Management Team (SMT) of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) wanted to exceed their basic charter obligations and remain competitive in a globalised professional institutional market.
CIMA had the potential to grow sustainably but organisational and cultural legacies were diverting the SMT’s attention to other processes and as a consequence, targets were missed, putting their long-term growth and development at risk.
The project was divided in a Strategy Building phase (two years) plus a Support-in-Implementation phase (five years). Concerto and CIMA jointly designed a Sustainable Growth Programme helping senior management recognise the potential that the organisation had.
CIMA drew from our knowledge of strategy, performance management, leadership development, project management and real estate to inject the right levels of energy across the organisation, also building better rapport with their clients.
The new strategy helped CIMA develop a more focused and unified leadership team that to this day executes clearer, braver ideas, much more quickly.
A shift in focus for CIMA, staff showed enthusiasm for the strategy resulting in student membership growing by 30% and a joint venture with the American Institute of Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA), to create a globally influencing body called the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants.
